Bottoms Up for Babies
September 27, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 10:00 pm
$150
Go “Bottoms Up for Babies” and sip on spirits for a good cause! Join us for a fun evening at this unique venue with dinner, drinks and live music provided by The Lloyd Stephens Band! Throughout their building’s 100 year history, The Shanty Wadsworth has been a favorite gathering place for neighborhood locals to eat, drink and socialize. The newly expanded restaurant has also been featured on celebrity chef Guy Fieri’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” on Food Network!
Our keynote speaker will be Dr. Michele Vaughn, an accomplished author, public speaker, inspirational coach and leadership consultant who is also the CEO of Teen & Single Mother Resource Center, Inc. in Waukegan. She will share her inspirational story about being a teen mother and how overcoming a variety of challenges, like diaper need, helped her to become the successful woman that she is today. You don’t want to miss this! Tickets are $150.00 each and include appetizers, plated dinner and open bar for 3 hours. You must be 21 years of age or older with a valid ID to attend the event. Reserve your tickets today!
All proceeds will support the diaper distribution program at Twice As Nice Mother & Child. As a member of the National Diaper Bank Network, our on-site diaper bank and mobile diaper pantry provides over 350,000 free diapers to Lake County children every year. Parenting is challenging, but it can be even more difficult when you lack the necessities. Diapers are a basic need for children, as essential to their health and well-being as food, shelter and a parent’s love. Yet many families struggle to afford diapers and few resources exist to help them.
Diaper need, the lack of a sufficient supply of diapers, affects 1 in 3 families in the U.S. and safety net programs like food stamps and W.I.C. do not cover diapers. There are no state or federal programs to assist families with diaper need, so many families must often choose between buying diapers, paying bills or getting groceries. With more than 48% of the nation’s children under the age of 3 living in poverty level or low-income families, there are approximately 5.4 million children who could use help. We believe that all parents, regardless of income or circumstance, should have enough diapers for their children. Our diaper program helps to fill the gap by providing free diapers so parents can keep their children clean, dry and healthy.
Twice As Nice Mother & Child distributed 376,652 diapers to Lake County children in 2018 and this year we are on track to hit 500,000; however, that does not even come close to meeting the need. Although we give away diapers to those that need them, we purchase 60% of the diapers for our program. With just 15 permanent volunteers, we rely on fundraising events, diaper drives and cash donations to fulfill our mission of ensuring that every child has a sufficient supply of diapers. Donations do more than just put diapers on a shelf in our warehouse—they make a real and lasting impact in the lives of over 6,000 children across 31 zip codes in Lake County. Every dollar raised for “Bottoms Up for Babies” directly supports our diaper distribution program and the most vulnerable residents of Lake County.
Every child deserves to have enough diapers—and every child deserves to be clean, dry and healthy. Your support of this event will help us further our efforts to close the diaper gap in Lake County.
